Kailash was born into a farming family in the Lower Khumbu region, where he developed a deep connection with nature. After completing his School Leaving Certificate, he moved to Kathmandu at 16 to pursue higher education, earning a bachelor’s degree in English literature, history, and tourism. To support himself, he worked in a trekking shop in Thamel, Kathmandu’s tourist hub.

Inspired by his village’s strong ties to the trekking industry, Kailash began his career as a porter in 1999. His dedication and passion quickly propelled him up the ranks, and he has now been guiding trekking expeditions for over 20 years.
Beyond the mountains, Kailash is also a professional chef. Due to the seasonal nature of trekking, he took time away from the industry to work abroad, cooking for multinational companies in Singapore and Saudi Arabia, as well as serving the Canadian military in Afghanistan. Upon returning to Nepal, he chose to return to trekking and continue his love for nature.

When not leading treks, Kailash enjoys spending time with his family, reading, and indulging his passion for history.
