Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Kathmandu
Upon arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport, we will welcome you and transfer you to your hotel. Your passports will be collected to begin the Tibet visa application process. The remainder of the day is free to relax after your journey or explore Kathmandu independently. Overnight in Kathmandu.
Day 2: Kathmandu Sightseeing, Pilgrimage Briefing and Preparation (B)
After breakfast, attend a comprehensive Kailash Mansarovar Yatra briefing and meet your guide and support crew. Later, visit the magnificent Boudhanath Stupa, one of the largest Buddhist stupas in the world, followed by the sacred Pashupatinath Temple, Nepal’s most important Hindu pilgrimage site. In the evening, witness the spiritual atmosphere of the traditional aarti ceremony on the banks of the Bagmati River. Overnight in Kathmandu.
Day 3: Kathmandu Heritage Tour and Final Preparations (B)
Explore two of Kathmandu Valley’s UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Begin with a guided visit to Kathmandu Durbar Square before continuing to Swayambhunath Stupa, often known as the Monkey Temple, which offers panoramic views across the city. The afternoon is free for final preparations before your Mount Kailash pilgrimage begins. Overnight in Kathmandu.
Day 4: Drive Kathmandu - Kerung (2,700m) | Approx. 7-8 Hours (B L D)
Leave Kathmandu and travel north towards the Nepal-Tibet border through the scenic landscapes of Langtang National Park. Following immigration formalities, continue into Tibet and onward to Kerung. The dramatic transition from Nepal’s green valleys to the rugged Tibetan Plateau marks the beginning of your Tibet adventure. Overnight in Kerung.
Day 5: Acclimatisation Day in Kerung (B L D)
A full acclimatisation day allows your body to adapt gradually to the increasing altitude. Enjoy gentle walks around Kerung and experience local Tibetan culture while taking in views of the surrounding mountains. Overnight in Kerung.
Day 6: Drive Kerung - Saga (4,640m) | Approx. 5-6 Hours (B L D)
Today’s drive traverses the vast Tibetan Plateau, crossing high mountain passes including Thong La and La Lung. Enjoy spectacular views of Shishapangma (8,027m), Tibet’s highest mountain entirely within China. Continue across the mighty Yarlung Tsangpo River, known downstream as the Brahmaputra, before arriving in Saga. Overnight in Saga.
Day 7: Drive Saga - Lake Mansarovar (4,590m) | Approx. 6-7 Hours (B L D)
Travel deeper into western Tibet towards the sacred Lake Mansarovar. Revered by Hindus, Buddhists, Jains and followers of Bon, the lake is considered one of the holiest places in Asia. Upon arrival, enjoy stunning reflections of the surrounding Himalayan peaks in its crystal-clear waters. Overnight near Lake Mansarovar.
Day 8: Lake Mansarovar Exploration and Drive to Darchen (4,670m) (B L D)
Spend the morning at Lake Mansarovar, where pilgrims often perform prayers, meditation and spiritual rituals. Enjoy a scenic drive around sections of the lake before continuing to Darchen, the traditional starting point of the Mount Kailash Kora. Overnight in Darchen.
Day 9: Trek Darchen - Dirapuk (5,210m) | Approx. 5-6 Hours (B L D)
Drive to Yamadwar and begin the sacred Mount Kailash Kora. Following the valley alongside the Lha Chu River, enjoy extraordinary views of Mount Kailash’s western and northern faces. Prayer flags, pilgrims and dramatic Himalayan scenery accompany the trail throughout the day. Overnight at Dirapuk.
Day 10: Cross Drolma La Pass (5,634m) and Trek to Zuthulpuk | Approx. 8-9 Hours (B L D)
Today is the most challenging and spiritually significant day of the Kailash Kora. Ascend to Drolma La Pass, the highest point of the pilgrimage, adorned with colourful prayer flags and sacred offerings. From the pass, descend past the holy Gauri Kund before continuing to Zuthulpuk. Overnight at Zuthulpuk.
Day 11: Complete Kailash Kora and Drive to Saga | Approx. 3 Hours Trek + Drive (B L D)
Complete the final section of the Mount Kailash circuit before reaching Chongdo, where vehicles await. After successfully completing the sacred Kora, drive back across the Tibetan Plateau to Saga. Overnight in Saga.
Day 12: Drive Saga - Kerung | Approx. 6 Hours (B L D)
Retrace your route through Tibet’s spectacular high-altitude landscapes. Enjoy one final opportunity to admire the vast Tibetan Plateau and distant Himalayan peaks before returning to Kerung. Overnight in Kerung.
Day 13: Drive Kerung - Kathmandu | Approx. 7-8 Hours (B L)
Cross the Tibet-Nepal border and return to Kathmandu through the scenic valleys of Langtang. Upon arrival, transfer to your hotel and enjoy a well-earned rest after completing one of the world’s most remarkable pilgrimage journeys.
