October has arrived in full force; the air is crisp, the mountains are calling, and the festive spirit is everywhere. After some challenging weather last week, the newly formed government and emergency response teams showed incredible leadership. They acted swiftly, taking smart precautions and restricting travel when needed, which helped prevent major losses. Roads and trails were reopened quickly thanks to the tireless work of the Department of Roads and local communities; a true testament to Nepal’s resilience and teamwork.

Adventure is thriving across the region. Our Mardi Himal trekkers just returned from an unforgettable journey, while travellers are soaking up Bhutan’s serene beauty. The month-long expedition aiming for first ascents on Jugal Himal II and IV has just departed, and another team has arrived for a mini trek and adventures around the valley, Bandipur, and Chitwan National Park. Later this week, the next wave of adventurers arrives for Everest Base Camp, Chitwan, and Bhutan, followed by climbers preparing for Labouche, Island Peak, and Ama Dablam. October is truly full steam ahead!

The festive season adds even more colour to Nepal. Dashain, the country’s biggest festival, has just ended, and Tihar, the five-day Festival of Lights, is around the corner. Streets and homes will soon glow with diyo (oil lamps), flowers, and vibrant decorations. Each day celebrates different symbols of life: crows, dogs, cows, and Goddess Laxmi, concluding with Bhai Tika, a beautiful celebration of brother-sister bonds.

Following Tihar is Chhath, celebrated mainly in the southern plains. This festival honours the Sun God, with prayers, songs, and offerings along rivers and ponds; a vibrant expression of gratitude, renewal, and light.
