Day 1: Trip briefing and preparation

Day 2: Drive Kathmandu to Syabru Besi (1,550m), approx. 8 hrs. We will depart after an early breakfast for what is a long winding journey, along precipitous roads to the start of the trek at Syabru Besi.

Day 3: Trek Syabru Besi to Lama Hotel (2,370m), approx. 6 hrs. Starting off gently we descend to the Langtang Kola. Slowly the trail climbs gently through the forest with the river flowing beside us. While walking through the forest you should keep your eyes peeled for langur monkeys playing in the trees to a symphony of bird song. The forest becomes sparser and drier on this side of the river, consisting mainly of scrub oaks and nettles. Finally, we climb steeply on a good trail to Lama Hotel.

Day 4: Trek Lama Hotel to Mundu (3,543m), approx. 7 hrs. The day starts with a gentle climb but soon becomes steeper as we continue to follow the Langtang Khola climbing steeply through hemlocks, oaks, maples and rhododendron forest to the national park checkpoint at Ghora Tabela (2,970m). Beautiful views of Langtang Lirung (7,225m) can be seen from here. The trail ascends gradually, as the valley becomes a typical u-shaped glacial valley and we pass many mani stones, water-driven prayer wheels and scattered Tamang villages, as well as what was once Langtang Village before it was buried in the 2015 earthquake. From Langtang we climb gradually up onto a ridge, dominated by a large square chorten and a long row of mani stones and on to the small village of Mundu.

Day 5: Trek Mundu to Kyanjin Gompa (3,830m), approx. 3 hrs. From Mundy we pass through yak pastures and then cross the Langtang Khola, reaching a wider valley scattered with large boulders to a moraine. Here we gain the first views of Kyanjin Gompa and the dramatic icefall flowing from Langtang Lirung and Langtang Kinshung (6,781m) to the north. The route then weaves through large boulders before a short descent to Kyanjin Gompa.

Day 6: Day hike to Tserko Ri (4,984m), approx. 5-6 hrs. Today will head up to the highest point on our trek for some truly spectacular views of the Langtang Range. Heading up along a path directly behind Kyanjin Gompa, we will eventually arrive at a viewpoint, which offers magnificent views of Langtang Lirung and its surrounding peaks.

Day 7: Trek Kyanjin Gompa to Lama Hotel (2,370m), approx. 7 hrs. Today we retrace our route along the Langtang Khola to Mundu and on to Ghora Tabela (3,020m). The trail is for the most part downhill, descending to Lama Hotel where we stop once again for the night.

Day 8: Trek Lama Hotel to Syabru Besi (1,550m), approx. 6 hrs. We continue down along the same route that we climbed on day one of our treks, once again keeping an eye out for wildlife in the ancient forest.

Day 9: Drive Syabru Besi to Kathmandu (1,325m), approx. 8 hrs. We retrace our route back to KTM, stopping along the way for lunch.

Note: The trek itinerary is a guide only and may be subject to change at short notice
