Born in Germany but raised in the UK from an early age, Kate’s love for the outdoors was nurtured during childhood summers spent camping and running wild with her brothers across the hills and beaches of the UK. At 13, she embarked on her first French exchange, staying with a local family over Easter, sparking a lifelong passion for travel. From the age of 16, she worked during the first half of each summer break to fund her travels for the second half—and she never looked back.

In early 2002, Nepal was the first stop on a six-month journey, and upon leaving, Kate vowed to return. Just 18 months later, she quit her job as a Project Manager for an international events management company and came back as a volunteer teacher for three months, intending to retrain as a primary school teacher afterward. However, college never happened. Her love affair with Nepal and its people only deepened—especially after meeting Amrit. In the summer of 2004, after brief stints in China and the UK, she took a leap of faith, returning to Nepal to help run the NGO she had once volunteered with and to see what the future held. She has never looked back.
Twenty years on, Nepal is well and truly home. The skills she honed managing large-scale global events now keep the operations of Himalayan Quests running seamlessly, while her experience leading a grassroots Nepali NGO helps her oversee HQ’s sister not-for-profit, Himalayan Quests Foundation.

Kate is deeply passionate about her adopted country and loves experiencing everyday Nepal through the eyes of first-time visitors. In her spare time, she loves being out in nature, connecting with locals in rural villages, pottering around the garden, reading with the cat happily curled up in her lap and cooking for family and friends.
