Sarki was born in Patle, Okhladunga a small village in the mid hills of eastern Nepal. He went to the local school up until class 10, passing his SLC from there. He started his trekking career from the age of 13 working as a porter – popping in and out of school as work dictated. Upon completing his SLC exams he headed to Kathmandu to complete classes 11 & 12, studying humanities while continuing to work in the trekking industry.
Sarki worked his way up the ranks from porter, to cook, to assistant guide and then guide, getting his full license in 2011. He now works with HQ as one of our guides. He aspires to learn as much as possible and to improve his skills so he can become an internationally recognised guide.
When not in the mountains he likes to read, cook and get involved with social projects. He is an active member of his college’s Ex Student Foundation, the Trekking Guides Association, Federation of Sherpa Journalists and a National Human Rights organisation.
