In 2013 HQ organised and ran its first series of free health camps in rural villages in the mid west of Nepal, offering locals access to health care not readily accessible in the area. Treating individuals, who would otherwise go untreated, these health camps make a powerful and lasting change in the lives of the thousands of patients that visit. The health camps are now established as an annual event, each year getting bigger and busier.
On April 25th 2015 a devastating 7.8 magnitude earthquake rocked Nepal bringing destruction and devastation to thousands of people. Hundreds of subsequent aftershocks, and especially the 6.9 magnitude shock on the 12th May, turned even more homes, schools and community buildings to rubble.
In response to this disaster Himalayan Quests launched its Nepal Earthquake Relief Appeal to allow us as an organisation to help our staff and partner communities firstly with immediate emergency relief and then, longer-term support with the rebuilding of schools and community buildings such as health posts.
To say we were overwhelmed by the response to our appeal is an understatement, and the ongoing trust and support we are receiving has lead us to registering a local NGO, the Himalayan Quests Foundation to run and manage the ever increasing number of social projects that we are now involved with and funding.
